Los Almendros is a great home base to enjoy everything Costa Rica has to offer.  Along with the many beautiful beaches you have great access to a wide variety of nearby eco and adventure activities.  There is something for everyone of all ages and any activity level.

You can explore nearby forests, rivers, waterfalls, volcanos, fincas (farms), adventure parks and more.  Do as much or as little as you like.  Plan your own half or full day of exploring, or book a guided trip with a local tour company.  We have an onsite tour company that provides our guests with preferential pricing and service and offers many great day trips.

ADVENTURE EXPERIENCES

Thrill seekers can get there adrenaline pumping while enjoying multiple opportunities for ziplining, white water rafting, canyoning, and caving in the area.  All incredible and exhilarating pursuits with many offering great potential for wildlife viewing and nature exploration.  Join in an ATV off road tour of splashing through rivers, climbing mud-caked banks, and traveling the back “roads”. Or take a scenic helicopter tour and see the beaches, rivers, and volcanoes from the air. Don’t forget the fantastic scuba diving, surfing and sportfishing.  Consider a combination adventure and exploration tour for a jam packed day or head to an eco/adventure park to get the most out of your time.

ART AND CULTURAL ENCOUNTERS

Costa Rica is an energetic Latin American country.  Discover beautiful arts and crafts, colourful folkloric music, and lively local festivals.  Join in the festivities at a local village fair and sample local quinine, listen to popular music groups, dance with locals and watch a horseback parade. Looking for a unique keepsake?  The local stores have a wide assortment of crafts, art work, and musical instruments.  Find whimsical and practical items carved from local hardwoods and hand painted.  Uncover the perfect handmade blanket or sarong.  Fall in love with the amazing and colourful masks of animals and supernatural beings carved by the indigenous people.   Be sure to check that the items are locally made in Costa Rica.  If you are looking for pottery, take the time to explore nearby communities where you will find family owned pottery operations that create amazing shapes and colours.  Sign up for a Latin dancing or cooking class.  Tour a working coffee, sugarcane, or fruit plantation and see how these items are grown and processed. Or explore an historic Costa Rican farmhouse while learning how rural farmers use the cacao tree, coffee plants and sugarcane to make chocolate, coffee and sugar.

WATER ACTIVITIES

The Gulf of Papagayo offers multiple opportunities for beach hoping, marine life exploration, and water sports.

Fish from shore, inshore or off shore in the world class sport-fishing waters.  Snorkel or scuba dive multiple nearby sites. Kayak, jet ski or sail down the coastline, spotting marine life as you discover one of the many hidden beaches.  Take up surfing in the popular beach town of Tamarindo (1 hr drive) or surf the nearby iconic Witches Rock.  End the day with a beautiful sunset cruise.

Head inland to go white water rafting, swim in a waterfall, float down a gentle river while viewing wildlife, or soak in hots spring.  Many tour companies offer a great combination of activities. All can be arranged to start from Los Almendros.  Plan your getaway today!
